Well, let me tell ya, these young folks are always comin’ up with new games. First, it was tennis, and now it’s this “pickleball” thing. I ain’t played either one myself, my old bones ain’t up for it, but I hear folks talkin’ about ’em all the time. So, are these pickleball and tennis nets the same height? That’s what them city slickers wanna know, huh?
Now, from what I gathered listenin’ to the folks down at the market, these nets ain’t the same at all. Tennis nets are taller, you see. They’re like 42 inches high at the sides, them posts they call ’em, and then they sag a bit in the middle, down to 36 inches. Kinda like my clothesline when I hang the wash, only straighter.

Pickleball nets, on the other hand, are shorter. They say it’s 36 inches high at the posts and 34 inches in the middle. Not much of a sag, really. Seems like them pickleball folks don’t like things droopin’ too much. I reckon it makes sense, that little ball they use would just roll right under a saggy net, wouldn’t it?
- Tennis net height at posts: 42 inches
- Tennis net height at center: 36 inches
- Pickleball net height at posts: 36 inches
- Pickleball net height at center: 34 inches
So, there ya have it. Tennis nets are taller, plain and simple. You can’t just use one for the other, not without doin’ some fiddlin’. I heard some folks say you can lower a tennis net for pickleball, but I don’t know much about that. Seems like a lot of trouble to me.
Now, why they gotta make these games so complicated, I don’t know. Back in my day, we just threw rocks at tin cans. No nets, no fancy rules, just good ol’ fashioned fun. But I guess times change, and people like their newfangled games. As long as they’re havin’ fun and not botherin’ nobody, I reckon it’s alright.
Pickleball, they say, is good for your health. Gets you movin’ around, makes your heart pump. That’s what the doctor told Mrs. Higgins down the street. She’s been playin’ it ever since her husband passed, says it keeps her mind off things. Good for her, I say. Me, I’ll stick to my gardenin’. That’s enough exercise for this old lady.
And talk about paddles! They got all sorts of fancy paddles for pickleball, seems like. Different weights, different shapes, all costin’ a pretty penny, I bet. Just like them tennis rackets, always somethin’ new and improved. Back in my day, a paddle was a paddle, made of wood and sturdy enough to swat a fly or stir the stew. These youngsters and their gadgets, I tell ya.

So, if you’re thinkin’ of playin’ either of these games, make sure you get the right net. Don’t go tryin’ to use a tennis net for pickleball, or you’ll be chasin’ that little ball all over the place. And don’t go spendin’ a fortune on them fancy paddles neither, unless you got money to burn. Just get yourself somethin’ that works and go have some fun. That’s what matters, right?
But remember, don’t go playin’ on my lawn! I worked hard on that grass, and I don’t want nobody tramplin’ all over it. Go find yourself a court or a park or somethin’. And be careful out there, you hear? Don’t want nobody gettin’ hurt. These old bones are tellin’ me it’s time for a nap, all this talk about sports is wearin’ me out.
Anyways, that’s the long and short of it. Tennis nets are taller than pickleball nets. It ain’t rocket science, just common sense, if you ask me. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got some chores to do. These young folks and their questions, always keepin’ me busy.
