Well, let me tell you, I heard folks talkin’ ’bout this tennis thing. They sayin’ it’s some kinda sport. And then they sayin’ things like “aerobic” and “anaerobic”. Sounds like a load of hogwash to me, but I reckon I’ll try to figure it out. This here is about is tennis aerobic or anaerobic, you see.
So, this “aerobic” thing, they say it means “with air”. Like when you’re breathin’ normal, I guess. They say walkin’ or ridin’ a bike, that’s aerobic. You movin’ your body, breathin’ a bit faster, blood pumpin’. Sounds like a regular day to me, just walkin’ around and doin’ chores. You can keep doin’ that for a good long while.

Then there’s this “anaerobic” thing. That means “without air”. Now, how can you do anythin’ without air? I don’t get it. But they say it’s like when you’re doin’ somethin’ real hard and fast. Like liftin’ heavy stuff, or runnin’ like a scared rabbit. You can only do that for a little bit, then you gotta stop and catch your breath. Makes sense, I reckon. You can’t just keep liftin’ heavy things forever, can ya?
- Aerobic is with air.
- Anaerobic is without air.
- Tennis got both, I guess.
Now, this tennis, it’s got a lot of runnin’ around, from what I hear. These young folks, they run back and forth, whackin’ that little ball. Must be tirin’, I reckon. So, that sounds like that “aerobic” thing, right? Runnin’ around for a long time, gotta breathe a lot.
But then they also gotta hit that ball real hard sometimes. That sounds like that “anaerobic” thing. Gotta use all your strength for a little bit, then you get a little rest. Like when you’re choppin’ wood. You swing that axe hard, then you rest for a second before you swing again. Is tennis aerobic or anaerobic? I think it depends on how they play, right?
They say tennis is mostly that “aerobic” thing, ’cause they get to rest between them games and sets. Like takin’ a breather between chores. You work hard, then you rest a bit, then you work hard again. That makes sense. You need that time to catch your breath so you don’t pass out!
But they also say tennis has some of that “anaerobic” stuff too. Like when they gotta sprint to get that ball. Or when they gotta hit it real hard. That’s like when you gotta chase a chicken that got loose. You run real fast for a little bit, then you gotta stop and catch your breath.

I guess it’s like this: If you’re just kinda tappin’ that ball back and forth, takin’ your time, that’s probably more “aerobic”. Like when you’re just sweepin’ the porch. Just a nice, easy movement, nothin’ too strenuous. But if you’re runnin’ all over the place, hittin’ that ball like you’re mad at it, that’s probably more “anaerobic”.
Tennis aerobic or anaerobic? It’s all a bit confusin’, ain’t it? Seems like it’s a mix of both, dependin’ on how you play. Like life, I reckon. Sometimes you’re just takin’ it easy, sometimes you’re hustlin’ and bustlin’. Gotta have a little bit of both to keep things goin’.
So they say tennis has four different things goin’ on. You runnin’, you movin’, you doin’ all sorts of stuff on that court. And most of the time, you using that aerobic energy. Like I said, that is just moving and breathing normal, right? But sometimes, you need that quick burst, that anaerobic power, when you really hitting the ball or running fast to get it.
This whole thing about tennis aerobic or anaerobic is like a big mystery. But from what I gather, it’s kinda like life. You got your easy days, and you got your hard days. You got your times when you’re just strollin’ along, and you got your times when you’re runnin’ like the devil’s on your tail. And that’s alright. That’s just how it is.
I guess the important thing is to keep movin’, whether it’s that “aerobic” or “anaerobic” way. Just like on the farm. You gotta keep workin’, whether it’s plantin’ seeds or tendin’ to the animals. You gotta keep your body movin’, keep your blood pumpin’. That’s what keeps you healthy and strong. So, I reckon this tennis thing ain’t so bad after all. Might even give it a try myself someday, if these old bones can handle it!
