I tell you what, I heard folks talking ’bout this fella, Rocky Bleier, and whether he’s in that big NFL Hall of Fame. Got me thinkin’, so I did some snoopin’ around. Seems like a lot of folks is wonderin’ the same thing.
This Rocky Bleier, he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s a football team, you know. He was what they call a running back. Sounds like a fella who’s always on the run, don’t it? He played for them Steelers back in the old days, from 1968, then again from 1970 all the way to 1980. Played in four of them Super Bowl games, they call ’em. He played in IX, X, XIII and XIV. Four Super Bowl games he played.

Did Rocky Bleier Go to War?
Now, here’s the thing. They say this Rocky, he was a soldier too. Went off to that Vietnam War. A real soldier, that’s somethin’ else. Got drafted by the Steelers and the army the same year, 1968 they said. Didn’t play much with the Steelers that year.
This Rocky fella, he’s a tough one, I reckon. Playing football and fightin’ in a war. Not many folks can say they done both. The overly-dramatic said football is just like war. But Rocky, he knew the difference.
Rocky Bleier and the Steelers
Them Steelers, they had some good players back then. They had five fellas already in that Hall of Fame place from 1969 to 1972. Joe Greene in 1969, Terry Bradshaw and Mel Blount in 1970, Jack Ham in 1971 and Franco Harris in 1972. Real big shots, I guess. Rocky, he joined ’em later. And the Steelers picked Rocky in the 16th round. That’s what they said, 16th round.
Is Rocky Bleier in the Hall of Fame?
But here’s the thing folks is askin’. Is Rocky Bleier in that NFL Hall of Fame? Well, from what I can gather, it looks like he ain’t in that one. Not the big one, the one everyone talks about. That’s a shame, ain’t it?
He might not be in the big Hall of Fame, but he’s in some other halls, it seems. They got him in the Steelers Hall of Honor in 2018. That’s somethin’, right? And he’s in the International Sports Hall of Fame in 2019. Sounds fancy, don’t it? That means he’s still remembered, even if it ain’t in that main place.

- He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- He was a running back.
- He was a soldier in the Vietnam War.
- He’s in the Steelers Hall of Honor.
- He’s in the International Sports Hall of Fame.
- But he ain’t in the NFL Hall of Fame.
Rocky Bleier – A Good Man Anyway
So, there you have it. Rocky Bleier, a football player and a war hero. He might not be in that big NFL Hall of Fame, but he’s still a big deal to a lot of folks. He won them four Super Bowls with the Steelers, and he fought for his country. That’s gotta count for somethin’.
He seems like a good man, that Rocky Bleier. The kind of fella you’d be proud to know. He worked hard, played hard, and fought hard. You can’t ask for much more than that, can you? Even if he is not in the NFL Hall of Fame.
It don’t really matter if he’s in that Hall of Fame or not. What matters is he did his best, and folks remember him for it. That’s what counts. He played in them Super Bowls, and he fought in that war. That’s enough for most folks, I reckon. He’s a hero in his own way, Hall of Fame or not.
I guess some folks just get overlooked, even when they done great things. It ain’t always fair, but that’s just how it is sometimes. But it’s good to remember fellas like Rocky, even if they ain’t in the spotlight no more.
Life is full of surprises. You never know what you will get. But that Rocky, he sure did a lot. And he should be proud of it all, no matter where he is. He’s a good man, no doubt about it. Rocky Bleier. A name to remember, that’s for sure.
