Alright, so you wanna know about them Philadelphia Phillies baseball cards, huh? Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t rocket science. It’s just like collectin’ anything else, like stamps or them little thimbles, but these are pictures of baseball fellas, see?
First off, you got these “rookie cards.” That’s like the first time a fella gets his picture on a card. Like when a baby bird first flies outta the nest, that’s its rookie flight, get it? So, a rookie card, that’s the first card of a player. Some folks go crazy for them, say they’re worth a lot of money. I don’t know, seems like a lot of fuss over a little piece of cardboard to me.

Now, you got big names, like this Mike Schmidt fella. Folks say he was a real good player back in the day. His rookie card? Probably worth a pretty penny, or so they say. Then you got these new guys, like Bryce Harper. He’s got cards too. Lots of ’em, I reckon. It’s like they print a new card every time the fella sneezes!
Where do you find these cards? Well, some folks got old boxes in their attics, dusty and full of spiderwebs. You gotta dig around, like a squirrel lookin’ for nuts. Or you can go to them stores, they sell new cards, all shiny and fancy. And then there’s this “e-bay” thing. My grandson showed me, it’s like a big market, but on the computer. Folks sellin’ all sorts of stuff, including these baseball cards. Be careful though, I heard some folks try to cheat ya, sellin’ ya fake cards for a lot of money.
Now, about the value, that’s where it gets tricky. It’s like tryin’ to guess how many beans are in a jar. Some cards, they say they’re “graded.” That means some fella looks at the card real close and gives it a number. A ten, that’s the best, like a perfect apple, no bruises or nothin’. Those cards, they say they’re worth a lot. But who knows? Seems like a bunch of hooey to me. I seen a card sell for more money than my house! Can you believe that? For a little piece of cardboard!
- Rookie Cards: First cards of players, can be valuable.
- Old Cards: Cards from older players like Mike Schmidt, often sought after.
- New Cards: Cards of current players like Bryce Harper, plentiful.
- Where to Buy: Old boxes, stores, online marketplaces like eBay.
- Card Value: Determined by player, condition, and grading. Graded cards get a number, 10 is best.
They say there’s a whole bunch of Phillies cards out there. Hundreds, maybe thousands. Different years, different players, different pictures. It’s enough to make your head spin. Some fellas collect ’em all, try to get every single one. Like tryin’ to catch all the fish in the sea, I say. Good luck with that!
And then there’s this “COMC” place. My grandson told me about it. Sounds like another place to buy cards, but they got a whole bunch of ’em, they say. You can buy from different folks, but they send ’em all to you together. Like a big ol’ potluck dinner, everyone bringin’ somethin’ to the table.

So, if you’re thinkin’ about collectin’ these Phillies baseball cards, well, it’s your money. Just remember, it ain’t about the money, it’s about the fun of it. Like when you were a kid, tradin’ marbles or somethin’. It’s just a hobby, somethin’ to pass the time. Don’t go spendin’ your life savings on these things, unless you got money to burn, I guess. Me? I’d rather buy a good pie than a fancy piece of cardboard, that’s for sure. But hey, to each their own, right?
Now, you might hear some folks talkin’ about the “1951” Phillies card. They say it’s real valuable. I don’t know, I never seen one. Probably just another piece of cardboard, if you ask me. But folks get all excited about these things. It’s like findin’ a gold nugget in the dirt, I reckon.
And this year, 2024, the Phillies, they signed up some new fellas, and some old ones too. That Jordan Romano fella, he’s a pitcher. And Jose Ruiz and Garrett Stubbs, they signed up too. So, I guess there’ll be new cards with their pictures on ’em. More cards to collect, more money to spend, or so they say. Seems like a never-ending story to me.
And don’t forget, some fellas, like this Mickey Mantle fella, he didn’t even play for the Phillies, but his cards are real famous. My grandson told me he played for the Yankees. Shows you what I know. But his rookie card, they say it’s worth a fortune. More than my house, probably more than my whole farm! Crazy, ain’t it?
So there you have it. A whole lotta talk about baseball cards. Just remember, it ain’t the end of the world if you don’t get that special card. There’s more to life than pieces of cardboard with pictures of fellas in funny uniforms. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I got a pie to bake.
