Well, let me tell ya about how them basketball fellas get their money, the ones they call NBA players.
Do NBA players get paid weekly? Now, that’s what folks wanna know. From what I hear, it ain’t exactly weekly, not like gettin’ your money every Friday like some folks do. It’s more like… twice a month, they say.
See, they get a big ol’ salary, every one of ’em, even the ones warmin’ the bench. But that money don’t come all at once. They split it up. Some say it’s 24 payments, some say 26, dependin’ on how long the season is. But the main thing is, they get paid every two weeks. Yep, twice a month, like I said. First of the month and the fifteenth, that’s how it goes, or so they tell me.
- So, it ain’t weekly, but it’s regular. They know when that money’s comin’.
- And let me tell ya, some of them fellas make a whole heap of money. Millions, they say!
- Makes your head spin, it does.
Now, the amount they get, that’s a whole ‘nother story. It ain’t the same for everyone, no sir. The big stars, they get the big bucks, the real big bucks. That fella, Steph Curry, they say he’s gonna make somethin’ like 55 million dollars this year! Can ya imagine? Fifty-five million dollars!
But even the fellas just startin’ out, they still make a good livin’. The least they can make is over a million dollars a year. A million! That’s more money than most folks see in a lifetime. Heck, I ain’t never seen that much money in all my born days.
And they get paid durin’ the season, and even when they’re playin’ in them playoffs. Unless, you know, they got some special deals, some bonuses or somethin’. Sometimes they get some money up front, I hear.
But it ain’t just about the money they make, ya know? They gotta pay taxes too, just like the rest of us. Uncle Sam wants his cut, that’s for sure. And then there’s state taxes, too. So, even though they make a whole lot, they don’t get to keep it all. Still, they end up with more than enough to keep ’em comfortable, that’s for sure.
They got rules about how much money they can pay these players. Can’t just give ‘em whatever they want, even if the owners got deep pockets. They gotta follow some rules, some percentages and such. The fellas who been playin’ a long time, they can make more, see? The longer you play, the more you get, that’s how it works. Up to a certain point, anyways.
And there are some fellas playin’ in the summer league, they got different contracts. Not as much money, but it’s a chance for them to show what they can do, try to get a spot on a real team.
So, there ya have it. NBA players get paid twice a month, not weekly. But they get paid good, real good. And some get paid better than others, that’s just the way it is. But it’s a whole lot of money, no matter how ya slice it. More money than you or I will ever see in our lifetimes.
