Alright, let’s jaw about them baseball cards, eh? You know, the little pictures of them fellas who smack balls and run around. I ain’t no expert, but I’ve seen a card or two in my day, and they ain’t all the same size, that’s for sure.
Now, from what I hear, most of them cards these days are about this big.
- 2.5 inches wide
- 3.5 inches tall
That’s what the fellas at the store told me, and they seem to know their stuff. Said somethin’ about Topps, whoever they are, settlin’ on that size. Seems like a good size, fits right in your hand, not too big, not too small. You can stick ’em in them plastic sleeves, you know, keep ’em nice and tidy.
But, let me tell ya, back in the day, things weren’t so simple. Them cards, they was all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some were a little wider, some were a little shorter. It was a whole mess, I tell ya. Like tryin’ to fit a square peg in a round hole, some of them were.
I remember seein’ some cards, oh, way back when, they was a little skinnier. Maybe somethin’ like this:
- Around 2.5 inches wide
- Maybe a little over 3 inches tall, like 3 and a bit
And then there were others, real small fellas, almost like postage stamps. Can’t rightly recall the exact sizes, but they was all different. Made it a real pain to keep ‘em organized, I tell ya. Always havin’ to shuffle ‘em around, tryin’ to make ‘em fit in them boxes.
Now, I heard tell of some other cards, not baseball mind you, but like them magic cards the kids play with. Some are the same size as them baseball cards, but others are a tad smaller. Like this:
- 2.25 inches wide
- 3.25 inches tall
Don’t rightly know why they gotta be different, just complicates things if you ask me. But hey, that’s what they do. Makes it hard to keep track of, all these different sizes. Confusin’ for an old lady like me.
And speakin’ of different sizes, I heard about some fellas makin’ their own cards. Now them, they could be any size under the sun. Big ones, small ones, square ones, even round ones I reckon. Ain’t no rules when you’re makin’ your own, I guess. But if you wanna trade ‘em or sell ‘em, best stick to that regular size, that 2.5 by 3.5 thingy. That’s what folks want, mostly.
So, if you’re out there collectin’ them baseball cards, just keep in mind they ain’t always been the same size. But these days, most of ‘em are that 2.5 by 3.5, and that’s what you’ll mostly see. Makes it easier for everyone, I reckon. Less fussin’ and more tradin’, that’s what I say.
And another thing, them fellas that make the cards, they gotta print ’em somehow, right? I heard they use big sheets of cardboard, like the kind you use for makin’ signs. Somethin’ like 8 and a half inches wide and 11 inches long. Then they cut ’em up and fold ’em, and that’s how they get all them little cards. Clever, them fellas, real clever. But still, they mostly stick to that 2.5 by 3.5 size, see? It’s just the way it is.
