Alright, let’s talk about this car racin’ thing, the NASCAR. Folks always wantin’ to know who’s drivin’ which car, who’s startin’ where. You know, like who’s up front and who’s stuck in the back. It’s a big deal, I guess, for them city folks who like watchin’ cars go ’round and ’round.
So, this here “starting lineup,” that’s just who’s racin’ and where they start. Like, if you’re startin’ up front, that’s good, you got a better chance of winnin’, see? If you’re in the back, well, you gotta do some catchin’ up, and that ain’t easy. These fellas, they drive real fast, like bats outta heck, sometimes they even crash, then everyone gets all riled up.

Now, for today’s race, I heard tell some names. Martin Truex Jr., that fella, he was up front. Sounded like he was retirin’ or somethin’, so maybe he wanted one last hurrah. And then there’s this Joey Logano fella. He’s won a bunch, I reckon, ’cause they were talkin’ about him winnin’ some “Cup Series title” thing. Sounded fancy. Then there’s a Ryan Blaney and William Byron. They were in some kind of “final four” somethin’ or other. Guess that means they’re pretty good too.

I also heard about some race down in Phoenix. That’s way out west, ain’t it? Hot and dry like an old corn cob. And they were racin’ for some championship, big to-do, I figure. Lots of hollerin’ and cheerin’, and probably some beer drinkin’ too.
Then there’s this Talladega place. They race there too. That one’s on TV, on NBC they said. So, you can watch it from your couch, no need to go swelterin’ in the sun. And Martinsville, that’s another place they race. Seems like these fellas are always drivin’ somewhere, must be tirin’. They need a good home-cooked meal, I tell ya. Some fried chicken and mashed potatoes, that’ll fix ’em right up.
Oh, and that Michael McDowell fella, he started up front at some race in Daytona. Daytona, that’s where they have that big race, the one everyone talks about. He won the “pole,” whatever that is. Must be somethin’ good, ’cause they made a fuss about it.
So, if you wanna know who’s drivin’ and where they’re startin’, you gotta look for this “starting lineup.” They’ll have all the names and numbers, and you can pick your favorite driver. Me? I don’t have a favorite. They all just look like blurs to me, zoomin’ around that track. But hey, if it makes folks happy, then good for them. Just hope they don’t go crashin’ into each other too much. That ain’t right.

Anyway, that’s all I know about this racin’ stuff. It’s a whole lotta noise and speed, but I guess that’s what folks like these days. They got their cars, and I got my garden. To each their own, I say.
And remember, drivin’ fast ain’t everything. Sometimes it’s better to take things slow and enjoy the ride. That’s what I always tell my grandkids. But they don’t listen, always in a hurry, just like them race car drivers.
