Well, I heard folks talkin’ ’bout NBA teams the other day. Got me thinkin’, which states ain’t got none of them basketball teams? Lots of states got nothin’, I tell ya. It’s a cryin’ shame, really. Them boys runnin’ up and down the court, that’s good exercise.
States Without NBA Teams, Bless Their Hearts
Now, I ain’t no expert, but I did some lookin’. Seems like a whole heap of states ain’t got no NBA team. Like, more than half of ’em! Can you believe it? Twenty-nine states, if I heard that right. They say only 21 states and Washington D.C. got an NBA team.

- Alabama, ain’t got one.
- Alaska, nope.
- Arkansas, uh-uh.
California and New York, them’s the big ones, they got some, of course. But poor little Rhode Island? Nothin’. Makes a body wonder why, don’t it?
I reckon it’s ’cause them teams, they go where the money is. Big cities, lots of people. Them little states, they just get left out. It ain’t fair, but that’s how it is, I guess.
More States Without an NBA Team
Now, where was I? Oh yeah, more states without no NBA team.
- Connecticut, them neither.
- Delaware, no sir.
- Hawaii, too far, I guess.
Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, all of them, they ain’t got no team to call their own. Kentucky too, and they love their basketball! Maine and Maryland, Mississippi and Missouri, all left out in the cold.
You’d think with all them states, they’d have more teams, right? But nope. Just 30 teams in the whole country. They say one is in Canada. The NBA was started in New York City, long time ago, I heard.

Even More States Missin’ Out
Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, none of them got a team. New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, they’re out of luck too. Then there is North Dakota, South Dakota, they ain’t got none. And Vermont, they’re missin’ out too.
- Montana, nope.
- Nebraska, no.
- Nevada, not a chance.
- New Hampshire, nothin’ doin’.
- New Jersey, no way.
- New Mexico, nuh-uh.
- North Dakota, ain’t got one.
- South Dakota, nope.
- Vermont, no sir.
And then there is Virginia. No NBA team there either. You know, it just makes you wonder how they decide these things.
Why No Teams in These States?
Well, like I said, I think it’s ’bout money. And maybe about how many folks live there. Them big cities, they got lots of people who can go to the games. Little towns, not so much.
Some folks say it is about professional sports teams. There are 25 states that don’t have an MLB, NBA, NHL, or NFL team. Then other 25 states have at least one of them. It’s a shame, I tell ya. They should spread the teams out more. Let everyone have a chance to see them play.
Maybe someday things will change. Maybe them little states will get a team of their own. Wouldn’t that be somethin’? I’d sure like to see it. Them states without an NBA team deserve one, I think.

Anyways, that’s all I know about it. Just somethin’ I heard folks talkin’ ’bout. Thought I’d share it with ya. Maybe you know more than me. If you do, let me know. I’m always willin’ to learn somethin’ new.
There you have it. All them states without no NBA team. It’s a long list, ain’t it? Maybe one day, things will be different. But for now, that’s just the way it is.
Oh, and there is also Wyoming. They ain’t got no team neither. So that makes 29 states without an NBA team in total. A lot of places missin’ out on all that basketball fun.
- Wyoming. They out of luck, too.
South Carolina, they ain’t got a team neither. You think they would, with all them people who love basketball.
- South Carolina, no team here.
There you have it. Twenty-nine states without an NBA team. It’s a cryin’ shame, really.
