Well, let me tell you, these young folks with their fancy cars, always talking about NASCAR and F1. I hear them going on and on. Sounds like a bunch of gibberish to me. But I been around the block a few times, seen a thing or two. And from what I gather, it’s like comparing apples and, well, some other kind of fancy fruit you only see in them glossy magazines.
This NASCAR, they say it’s all about them stock cars. Now, what in tarnation is a stock car? Sounds like something you’d find on a farm, right? But they say it just means regular cars, like the ones you and I drive. But souped-up, I guess. They make ’em go real fast. They go round and round on them oval tracks, like a bunch of chickens with their heads cut off. Lots of bumping and banging, that’s what I hear. Them cars are heavy, like them old tractors, not like these new lightweight things. They got bumpers, and fenders and look kinda like regular four-person Sedan we see on the road. Just a whole lot faster and louder, I reckon.

The cars are more like the ones we drive daily. So it is more like watching your neighbor racing, but much faster, and they do a lot of bumping and crashing into each other. They also have many sponsors. All the cars have different colors and big brand name letter on it. You can see a lot of big names from the car’s body.
Now this F1, that’s a whole different animal. Those cars, they don’t look like anything you’d see driving down Main Street. They’re all pointy and low to the ground, like them fancy bugs with the hard shells. And fast? Honey, they say those things are like lightning. They go zoomin’ around them twisty tracks, not just ovals. They say F1 cars are built for speed, not like our cars that are built for just getting us to the grocery store.
F1 cars are faster than NASCAR. I heard some people say that F1 can go from zero to 100 in like three seconds. That is really fast. But our normal cars, it will take like eight or nine seconds to reach that speed. F1 cars have less weight and that makes them go faster. That’s what I heard.
- NASCAR – them’s the stock cars, like regular cars but faster.
- They go round and round on oval tracks.
- Lots of bumping and banging in NASCAR.
- F1 – them’s the fancy, pointy cars.
- They go super fast on twisty tracks.
- F1 cars are lighter, and they don’t have much on them.
- NASCAR has big cars, and they look more like our normal cars, but much faster.
One thing I do know, both of ’em are loud. Real loud. I’ve seen it on the television, and it sounds like a herd of angry bees buzzing around. And dangerous? You bet your bottom dollar. Those fellas are risking their necks out there, going at those speeds. I wouldn’t do it for all the tea in China.
And from what I hear, them F1 cars are more expensive. They say they got all sorts of fancy technology in ’em. Makes sense, I guess. If you’re gonna go that fast, you better have some good stuff keeping you on the track. NASCAR, seems like it’s more about the driver’s skill, wrestling them heavy cars around. Not that them F1 drivers ain’t skilled, mind you. It’s just a different kind of skill, like the difference between wrangling a bull and riding one of them fancy show horses.

And the people who like these two things, they’re different too. NASCAR folks, they seem more down-home, like you and me. F1 fans, they seem to like the fancy stuff, the highfalutin things in life. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, just different strokes for different folks, as they say.
One is like a big, loud party with everyone you know. That’s NASCAR to me. Lots of folks, all having a good time. The other, F1, is more like one of them fancy galas, where everyone’s dressed up and sipping champagne. Both are fun, I guess, just depends on what you’re in the mood for. Like some people like 2WD cars, some like AWD cars, and some even like 4WD. It depends on what you want. But 2WD cars are usually cheaper than 4WD cars, and they are easier to maintain. Some people say front-wheel drive cars are cheaper than all-wheel drive cars. But AWD cars are better for snow, I think.
So, there you have it. That’s what this old lady thinks about NASCAR and F1. It’s all just a bunch of noise and speed to me. But hey, if it makes them young folks happy, then more power to ’em. Just as long as they don’t try to drag me to one of those races. I’d rather be at home, watching my stories, thank you very much. Just like how people choose Chevy 2500 or Chevy 3500, people have different needs and they choose what they want. I saw a lot of Tesla Model Y these days. They have two kinds, one is long range and one is performance, just like NASCAR and F1, you know. They are both cars but different. You just pick the one you like.
In my day, we didn’t have all these fancy races. We were happy just to have a car that could get us to town and back. But times change, I guess. And these young folks, they like their fast cars and their loud races. It’s all part of growing up, I suppose. Just like how we used to think a horse and buggy was the best way to travel, these kids probably think we’re crazy for not liking all this NASCAR and F1 stuff. But that’s okay. We all got our own way of doing things. And that’s just fine by me. I mean, both NASCAR and F1 are car racing, right? But just a little different. And people just like different things.
