Okay, here’s my take on “Why is Thanasis in the NBA”, presented as a blog post from a regular person’s perspective:
So, I was watching some NBA highlights the other day, and I kept seeing this guy, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, pop up. And I’m thinking, “Wait a minute… I know that name…”. Of course, it’s because his brother, Giannis, is like, a huge deal. You know, the Greek Freak, MVP, all that. But Thanasis? I wasn’t so sure.

So I started digging. First, I just watched some games. Not gonna lie, most of the time he was on the bench. But hey, everyone starts somewhere, right? Then I checked his stats. Okay, not exactly superstar numbers. We’re talking a few points per game, a couple of rebounds. Nothing that’s gonna blow you away.
Then, I went down the rabbit hole of internet forums and basketball blogs. Man, people have opinions! Some folks were pretty harsh, saying he’s only there because of his brother. The word “nepotism” got thrown around a lot. Ouch.
But then I saw other comments that showed that Thanasis is really good at defense. Some one else comments he is good at energetic plays.
My Deep Dive Process
- Step 1: The Eye Test. I literally just watched him play. Simple as that.
- Step 2: Stat Check. Basketball-Reference is my go-to. Looked up his career averages, per-game stats, all that jazz.
- Step 3: Forum Frenzy. Read through Reddit threads, blog comments, you name it. Gotta get the pulse of the people, right?
- Step 4: Expert Opinions. I try to watched some analysis videos from people.
I started to see a different side. People talked about his hustle, his energy, his defense. Apparently, he’s a really hard worker, a good teammate, and he brings a certain intensity to the court. I saw some old articles from his time in the G League and earlier, and it became clear that he put up some good defense, too.
I realized that maybe it’s not just about being Giannis’s brother. It is about having a strong defenese team in the NBA. Sure, that connection probably opened some doors. I mean, who wouldn’t want to have a closer look at the brother of a superstar? But Thanasis had to earn his spot. He had to prove he could contribute, even in a limited role.

So, is Thanasis in the NBA solely because of Giannis? Probably not. Is it a factor? Almost definitely. But I think he’s carved out his own little niche. He’s a role player, a hustle guy, and maybe, just maybe, he’s exactly what his team needs. I am not sure what to think, but I will keep watching his play!
